Testing Off Season

I know that the trip to Paris Las Vegas may have to wait till the end of Praxis season. While this is the start of Praxis season you may want to go earlier rather then later.

I went at this point last year and scored rather well. I was scared that I failed, however, I did rather well. So I am of the opinion that it is better to go early in the year.

Imagine if you will taking a test and be cool calm and collect. Not with something like progesterone raging through the body, causing grief and worry.

A student needs to be cool and calm and collect to take the ETS Praxis tests. Being calm during a high stakes standardized test is never easy. And let's be honest: you take very few of these high stakes test.

Practice for taking the tests is done when taking normal tests in normal classes. If you get worked up over the regular tests, you will get worked up over the Praxis. Therefore, practice not getting all worked up over a regular test in college. I know that is not easy to do . . . however, you must learn how to do it.

Can I leave my seat, please

One of the things that I did not like about taking the Praxis tests is the all the sitting. Now remeember back to grade school where you had to have specific permission to go out of your seat? That is what happens at the Praxis testing sites.

I know one person was thinking of having some padded panty on to help with the sitting. After all most teachers do not sit for long periods of time. We are usually walking and moving about.

Praxis I

I know that the book writers and help writers do their market research on who is taking these tests. However, with the PPST or the Praxis I aka. Pre-Professional Skills Test, I wonder how dumb do they think future teachers are.

I mean it takes a lot of work to get to that point and the PPST is just another step.

I wonder . . . how many people fail these tests, I for one would like to know.

Study Helps

I know that taking the Praxis is a tough gig. People will do no-doze and diet pills and other such products that help to stay awake or to help remember more.

Remember that eating well and sleeping is one of the best things you can do to help with the Praxis test.

I know people say this so many times, have a good breakfast on the day of the test.

I went down to my parents Orlando vacation home for a visit. there I went to a new store and found a stash of new praxis study guide books.

One thing I can say is that these things are coming out all the time. I am a little concenered that to many general ones get out there. What is needed is more specific content test books.

Well in any case . . . have a happy day and study hard.

Riding the wave

When looking for study guide reviews make sure they stay on topic. One problem that I have seen is sometimes, some of the bad guides ride their own RC airplanes and hobby horses on the topics they really like.

A good example of this is when a writer ignores economics for geography. The geography section is really good and the economics section is really bad on the Praxis 81 for social studies content. So be aware and use good judgement.

Movement of Teaching

One of the things of the praxis of teaching is the styles that you will use.

My first year teaching I bought a bar stools to sit on while I teach.

My second year, I seldom sat. My third year, I had a discussion format class where I had a square and I sat at the head of the table. No round table here.

this year I am back to moving around.

I know that studying for the Praxis is a real pain in the neck. I think some test takers will have some disposable underwear on them for any nervous problems that happen.

Just as always relax and remember you are supposed to know the material.

The bad news is that I am told that a certain percent fail the test all the time. And this has nothing to do with location or looks.

Study for praxis

I am working on the math praxis for middle school. I may be out of my league. When reading some of this stuff . . . I feel like I am back at summer camp in a bunk beds with big kid above me.

You know, like drowning. I guess I am going to have to take my time and make sure I get it right .. . that way . . . I pass the silly test.

ETS Fees

One of the problems that people who take the Praxis find that the expense of the Praxis as charged by ETS seems a little high. The Praxis sometimes, it seems, need a payday loan to pay for the exam.

The one cost that ticks me off is the sitting fee from ETS. Educational Testing Service charges $45, per day, for students to take the test.


Keep this in mind you have to take two or three tests.

Distraction.

When choosing a Praxis study guide make sure you look at some of the sample questions. If the distractors are not very good on . . . say . . . Declaration of Independence has something about golf apparel ladies . . . you may not want to get that study guide.

The first ten or so questions can give you a good idea if the book is any good. If the guide is not good and the distractors are bad . . . you will know this quickly.

More Tests

Well I am going to take the plunge and get some investment property in the form of a new Praxis book.

My plan is to take several Praxis tests, which in SD will make me elgiable to teach a class or two in that subject.

My goal is to take and be certified in as many subjects as possiable. I am thinking this will make me more valuable.
