I love listening to music. Sometimes I can pick out brands of guitars and other instrements for example, I can sometimes tell a gibson from a Waves Guitars I am really amazed when I am right. And I am right about 75% of time time I make a guess. Which is of course above random guessing.
I have tried to avoid political issues, however politics is affecting teachers. So if you start throwing at me I will have my bell helmet on.
I’m set to graduate next year with my degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies. All I’ve been hearing about is how hard it is to get a job.
So, what kind of competition can I expect … to teach history? Is it really hundreds of applicants per history position?
I have taught social studies for several years. I live in very rural state where ‘jobs are easier to come by’. This year there has been six social studies openings in the state. SIX. And one is only for one year, no more. The sixth one is my town and guess who is subbing there tomorrow and who ALWAYS runs into the P?
I have spent this year while being mostly unemployed adding certifications. I live in state where you can add through testing. I have added MS Science and some HS science.
On the 28th I am will be taking math Praxis tests. I am really hoping I pass one of the two.
I applied for MS Science they cut off at 60 applicants. P said there was a lot more.
My advice:
1. Add cert areas esp Math and Science and Special Ed.
2. Be willing to move (and i mean across the country) if you can.
3. Apply for everything within 200 miles.
4. Be willing to coach.
Now the good news. You are year out.
(no politics here so no slamming — just economic business realities)
The greater it looks that Obama will be voted out of office the greater it will be that complanies will start expanding and new companies will start coming.
We saw this effect in Oct. 2008 after the fake TARP issues. The people with skin in the game started holding back as Obama was going to beat McCain (who lost in Mid-Sept). When NOV. hit the real slide started becasue people (business and stock people) knew what was coming down the pike.
The flip side of that is the greater chance Romney will be elected business will start picking up and expanding again. (the odd thing here is I expect Obama to take credit in Oct. for the starting rebounding economy which could have an opposite effect of what is happening). Then come Nov. (IF) Romney is elected expect business to really start hiring. If Romney fulfills expectations and narrows the fed govt. quickly expect the recession (depression) to be over in 2-3 months (March 13).
Teacher Hiring Effect.
Let’s be honest many people went into teaching over the past 3 years because it looked like something to be safe from recession in. When those people leave teaching (rather quickly) expect jobs to open up quickly.
This means Science and Math are first, followed quickly by Language Arts. The bad news is that Social Studies and El. Ed. will still have to many people for to few jobs. But it will be easier for all.
Special Ed. as far as I can tell has been expempt from the recession. And those who went into SPED for $$ are out after one year or less.
(ECON topic over)
I do think the last years should be to rest the Myth Of Teacher Shortages. There are actual shortages of teachers in areas: Inner City, Indian Reservations, Science, Math and SPED. This shortage areas will return next year.
Here is something cool. You can play Doom called nDoom on a calculator. It is amazing that the you can run this on a calc.
I am ready to place this on the calc and actually play it. I am really really excited about this. Amazing that this calc is as beefy as an old computer.
Well I hope you have a good day.
Here is the demo.
Okay this is rather funny. ABC is having the perky one Katie Couric on ABC morning show. Now Katie is going up against NBC and the guest host is Sarah Palin. I am sure if these two get in a room they will need Firstgear Kilimanjaro Jacket in that room.
This will be very funny to watch the ratings. My money is on Sarah. I have a feeling that Sarah is going to do some serious ass kicking in the ratings area.
What to do if you will the 560M +/- of Mega Millions.
First thing is to take about out cash. WHich after taxes is 292M. Take cash as you have no clue what will happen in future. If taxes go up to say 70% which is possible, that will cut into money like crazy.
Set aside more taxes. YOu will be taxed at a rate of lets assume 40% (which is high) for a total of 156 Million dollars. you will get a pile of that back so do not worry. Your actual total tax will be 136M @35% however, who knows what will happen. You can stick the 40M into the bank and earn interest Which will be about 450K – taxes.
You are now left with 136M.
Take 10 Million dollars and spend it.
I will help my family and find a great Assisted living austin for my grandmother and pay for 5 years of that.
Buy the car, travel, house what ever the hell you want. Just buy. Get it out of your system.
People are going to ask for money. My suggestion is get 1,000 cashier checks for $1,000. HAnd them out and tell people please go away. There is no more. Remember you can only give $13K to each person without incurring taxes. Make that $26K if you are married. If you pay school expenses there is no limit.
We re now left 126M dollars. This is a lot.
Let’s go the easy no risk way.
Place into savngs account. Now savings accounts are not much good. So we will use CDs.
Talk with banks you want 1.5% CD for one year. This is hard to find, but you can find them. And with that much money I would find several banks.
Divide up your money into 12 equal chunks. May be more if you choose three or four banks. However divide the money up into equal parts.
you want once CD to expire every month and roll over just the principal. Have the interest go into a checking account. This can be automatically. You now have 126,000 to live on every month for the rest of your life and your spouse’s life.
That is 126k per month post taxes.
Get an American Express card and use that to pay for everything. Pay Amex every month.
Retire for good.
Well here is something funny in the election. Santorum has just endorsed Obama over Romney. Now this is like having some welding equipment break in the middle of something. I am really frazzled with the election items and the silliness that is going on.
I am just surprised that Santorum would say what he said. This is not what people would expect. Well I guess that now is the time to focus on November elections.
I did something today that is almost impossible to do. Kinda like me finding really good plastic cards printing. I listened to Pink Floyd.
I have never been a huge fan of Pink Floyd. Yes, I like Another Brick in the Wall, Money and a few other popular hits. I am also a huge fan The Final Cut. It was the only LP of Pink Floyd that I listened to. I read an article that inspired me to listen to Pink Floyd, Wish You Were LP. At an age of 47 I listened to this album for the first time ever.
What a great album. It was almost a religious experience listening to the album. I instantly went into the groove of Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part I-V). For 13 minutes I was mesmerized by the guitar work. What a great song.
The song Welcome to the Machine was just as good with the synthesizers. Have a Cigar was perhaps my least favorite. Wish you were here with the winds at the end I never quite new where the song ended. But still the guitars were great. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part VI-IX) picked up where the first one left off.
If you ever doubted that the press covers for Obama or the press has a liberal bias let me give you the March 11-12, 2012 example:
Bradley Manning.
Young Bradley Manning as you may recall is a traitor to his country. He released a slew of classified documents to Wikileaks. What he did was wrong.
The UK press is reporting, the UN has found that the treatment of Bradley Manning was cruel and inhuman torture.
Take a brief second and think how would this have been reported for George W. Bush? Or worse yet under Reagan. We would hear the howls of the media.
Let me do a quick search on CNN, CBSNews, ABCNews, NBCNews, and Fox News.
CNN — No Reports.
CBSNews — No Reports.
ABCNews — No Reports.
NBCNews — No Reports.
FoxNews — No Reports.
MSNBC “news” — No Reports
I did find that MSNBC did discuss it in a blog that was buried, I only found it through Google.
I also found that the UK is reporting. But the US media is oddly quiet. Kinda Odd.
Well if there was ever any doubt that there is an effort to cover for Obama it should be laid to rest.
One of the neater things I saw this year was heated motorcycle clothing. How cool is that? I mean you could not ride your bike up here on ice, but if it was cold and dry like this year . . . you could easily do this.
Speaking of cold and dry. I am thinking we have made up for our lack of water in one big snow storm that was after a day or two of constant rain.
Okay so here is something fun. Warren Buffet who wants rich people to pay more in taxes does not pay taxes. WHile I was reading by mybathroom lighting, I came across this article on Warren Buffet’s company that does not pay their fair share of taxes.
Warren and his company owe more than 302 million dollars.
Why are these people not in jail or something for oweing so much money? in taxes??
