There are many people who hate Wal-Mart for any number of reasons. One of the top battle cry is no insurance for a min. wage employees. There is also an alleged drag on medicad and state insurance programs.
1. This article tosses out the stupid minimum wage argument as, we need a working wage for these poor suffering workers.
"Wages at many large businesses, including Wal-Mart, already start above minimum wage."
So it seems that raising the bottom end will only hurt the shrinking middle-class. Every time the min. wage goes up, I get a pay cut. The only people at min. wage are those want to be for some reason or maybe do not have HS diploma.
2. I was shocked at the numbers. I am told the great drain on state governments from the evil WM. So using the numbers provided WM is responsible for .093% of the total number people on medicaid. Yes that is less the 1/10 of 1%.
3. The percentage of WM employes overall: I have been led to believe something like 1/2 to 3/4 of all WM employes are on medicaid of some sort. According to the article only 1.8% of WM employes are on state aid. This number is derived from the 234 WM slaves (no offense to the workers) on medical aid and "The state's largest, IHC, has 26,000 employees - nearly double Wal-Mart's Utah workforce - but only 48 workers on Medicaid."
4. If the complaint is going to hold water it would seem that the better target is the call center, Convergys, INC. who has 8,000 workers and 181 on the roles, or 2.3% of workers on aid.
5. Comparing to Hill AFB is an unfair comparison. Military does not count for a number of reasons. If anything that should be thanking the military (AF) for having a base.
6. What about the education? There are 230 workers who are on state funding for insurance. Something is really wrong there.
7. Alpine school district does not cover 41% of workers.
I do not think this argument holds up under scrutiny. There may be 1000s of reasons why WM is evil. This does not seem to be one of them. Please look at numbers when you read the news. Makes it much easier.
