Movies: Are They For Real?
Somebody has to say it. Shoving it under the rug will not work. Blaming others will not work. Pretending the problem does not exist will not help it. Whining and complaining all the time about it will not help.
Did you notice it? The movie box office has a great and horrid perfume about it. I do not mean just a little. I mean big time. I mean really really big time. Today August 9 my sons and I were out and about alone spending ‘uality’ time together as part of the ‘Big! Q: The uality Parenting Project.’ I got a hair and thought... hey guys let’s go see a movie.
We enjoy the same movies. Okay here is the idea. It will be to much money to see a first run movie. Batman Begins is out I will not even mention Dukes of Haphazard filming. . We wanted to go to the mythical dollar movie. We used to go all the time in Knoxville TN. One buck. I thought maybe Two bucks. Well the dollar movies are now FOUR DOLLARS! Even the cheapest first run movies are at... $6.50.
I am sorry did I miss something... I must have. Let me see what this Summer’s movie? Star Wars III: the sixth repeat (and least it was not horrid), Batman III, Charlie and Chocolate Factory: Redux, Bewitched: The Movie, The Ring II, Dukes of Haphazard: The Movie, dare I say another Duce Bigalow movie and others in the torrid of reruns, and little screen to big screen rehash tripe. For this they want NINE DOLLARS! This price has gone up from 200% - 300%. No wonder the movies are suffering.
So who is whining? I’m not really. Look at this... if I go to the movies with my family it will cost us $54 to walk into the movies: no soda or popcorn. No wonder the Hollyweird liberals foolishly want the minimum wage raised. I paid $3.00 to see Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. This was the first showing at the best movie house in the area (Orange County, CA) and the first movie you could buy tickets for in advance. At the time I was earning $3.35 as a high school student on minimum wage. Today minimum wage is $5.50 and tickets are almost 2x as much. What happened? Let me see.... scripts are in the toilet, the dialogue is horrid, acting bad and actors are spoiled brats.
I will spend $2 to watch the movie at home with my family.
The other problem seems to be the attack on values and people of religion in particular Protestants in America. THink about this... every crack whore has a heart of gold and is merely a victim of circumstances. While every Protestant pastor is child molester, father raper, murderer or even worse. Are we surprised when the largest block of money people will not go to the movies. And when a move that does not insult them does very well (aka The Passion).
I wonder if it is any surprise whatsoever that p2p filesharing is going through the roof. I read about the people who are now doing, Rent-Rip-Return of watching and sharing movies. Meanwhile the RIAA whines about not making money and blaming the lack of money on filesharing. From my window it looks like the movie industry is not providing a quality product at a good price.
