"Men give me some credit for genius. All the genius I have lies in this: When I have a subject in hand, I study it profoundly. Day and night it is before me. I explore it in all its bearings. My mind becomes pervaded with it. Then the effort which I make, the people are pleased to call the fruit of genius. It is the fruit of labor and thought." - Alexander Hamilton

The Quest for Relevance

In the great quest for relevance within the church, the American Church has made herself irrelevant.

You may ask how?

The American Church has had a race to the bottom with secularism.

Can you really tell the difference between most churches today in America as opposed to the feel good groups. We have 12 steps for most everything. The church as 12 steps to god's abundance in your life or other such stupid and meaningless sermon topics.

IS there a difference in music?

I think not. When the Monkees song, I'm A Believer is sung in a service the race for the bottom is complete.

When people go to church and hear a good story and they remember the story. Is it any differacne than the storytelling contest? We go and are entertained. The pastors are somewhat responsible. The elders (or whatever you may call them) are responsible. The people sitting in the pews are responsible. The Church Growth leaders are responsiable.

We claim huge churches, yet there is little true percentage growth. There was little growth between 1990 and 2000. The spurt after 9-11 is gone. I suspect there will only be negative growth after 2010 census.

The American Church has mesothelioma and is rotting from the inside out. Nothing ever dies from the outside in.
