"Men give me some credit for genius. All the genius I have lies in this: When I have a subject in hand, I study it profoundly. Day and night it is before me. I explore it in all its bearings. My mind becomes pervaded with it. Then the effort which I make, the people are pleased to call the fruit of genius. It is the fruit of labor and thought." - Alexander Hamilton

If A Song is Property . . . where is the TAX?

I just read a great article on file sharing.

The question that we have to rise is . . . if a song (or movie or book or anything else considered IP) is property then where is the property tax?

I pay a property tax on my car,
I pay a property tax on my house,
I pay a property tax on my snowmobile,
I pay a property tax on my RV (if I had one),
I pay a property tax on my motorcycle

and any other personal property that I have.

How do companies get a pass on not paying the tax? Companies should have to pay a property tax on all IP to maintain the copyright. This should be a yearly tax based on percentage of the gross revenues. This keeps Mickey Mouse happy and have a fair tax on big companies and allow the people who have small books to pay a little.

This tax should be collected by the states or divided out EQUALLY 51 ways (50 states + DC).

This tax should be given 100% to the states.

This would be a fair tax and a good tax.

This tax would allow items to move into public domain that are no longer wanted.
