"Men give me some credit for genius. All the genius I have lies in this: When I have a subject in hand, I study it profoundly. Day and night it is before me. I explore it in all its bearings. My mind becomes pervaded with it. Then the effort which I make, the people are pleased to call the fruit of genius. It is the fruit of labor and thought." - Alexander Hamilton

The $1 Pirate

"We feel that there's a great deal of music that's [stored] on these devices that was never legitimately obtained"

Legal Notice: First of all. I am not encouraging anyone who buys a Doomed (I mean Zune or Zoon or Zone or the Z machine) to pirate Universal Music. Nor am I encouraging anyone to pirate music or do any other illegal or perceived illegal activities.

Ok, so the Doomed (darn did again) from M$ is paying tribute to Universal, who owns 1/3 of the music out there, from each sale. Notice the artist does not own the music the record company does. You can ask Courtney Love about that one. I am wondering what this means? Can it mean that Doomed (dang have to stop that) owners can pirate music from Universal all day long?

I for one think so. If Universal a member of the R*AA (people who need to be prosecuted under RICO) demands a share of the cost of the player for:

"We feel that there's a great deal of music that's [stored] on these devices that was never legitimately obtained," said Universal Music Group Chairman and CEO Doug Morris.

Read this again.

"We feel that there's a great deal of music that's [stored] on these devices that was never legitimately obtained,"

So if the $1 goes to pay for this . . . then people who have payed the extortion on the Doomed can go to the favorite site and download like crazy. This should be liberating.

"This move demonstrates there can be a win-win situation where consumers have a great experience while labels and artists are also fairly compensated,'' Doug Morris, chairman and chief executive of Universal Music Group, said in a statement.

and

``We believe that the music consumer will appreciate knowing that when they buy a Zune device, they are helping to support their favorite artists.''

I think there are many people who would gladly give $1 to each of the R*AA member organizations, the big four or give labels. Then get the piracy pass.

I mean how can the thieves at Universal ever complain? They have been compensated for piracy from every single unit.

Well, M$, who should be subject to anti-trust regulations, is in bed with R*AA members who should be subject to RICO violations. Thievery makes such strange bedfellows.
